Red and green LED behavior on the bench (CA18DET 36F05)
Can anyone verify what the two LED's do when powering a CA18DET ecu on the bench. I have one that appears to be bad, the LED's simultaneously come on and stay on with the diagnostic potentiometer turned all the way counter clockwise. When powering the ecu with the potentiometer turned all the way cl...

Re: random negative timing causing car to stumble
Regarding TP, it was not available in streaming mode, as in, it did not show up as a selectable PID.
I did not want to post this tune file up, so I emailed it to you.

Re: undefined rom constants
The ecu has a PLMS board installed, I used Nistune to read out the bin.

Re: random negative timing causing car to stumble
Driving around in this car again today, the same timing retard / stumble behavior is there after driving for about ten minuets, but it's not as bad as the last time. I did datalog this time, and sure enough, you can see that the timing just drops by 15 degrees or so, I do not see anything that stand...

Sorry, not sure what you mean by this, can you clarify ?

Re: Effect of too much ignition timing at idle?
Many manufactures pull timing on start-up to help light off the catalytic converter, that may be what you are seeing. Also, idle spark is typically set below MBT so that there is a torque reserve that can be used to stabilize idle speed via moving spark back and forth. Too much timing at idle, depen...

undefined rom constants
Working on a KA-T car recently, that has a strange timing retard issue, I've been looking through the tune trying to figure out what's going on. I read out the tune and copied all of the mapping back to stock, and then compared the bin to a stock bin and found that there were nine rom addresses stil...

Re: random negative timing causing car to stumble
Hi Matt, thanks for the input. I'm guessing they used the SR20DET calibration because it was based off of an turbo engine, but those SR engines had distributors like the KA. Not sure if that is an advantage over the KA calibration though. Can you verify that the lowest timing values I should see, wo...

random negative timing causing car to stumble
I had someone contact me who has a KA24DE-T with a strange problem. The car has a rom tune already in it, using a PLMS board, and the calibration is based off of a 54C00 bin. I found that the O2 sensor wire had been repaired poorly, and the shielding was shorting to the sensor wire. I fixed that, an...

Re: VE table and open / closed loop threshold on 70F05 95 S14
I'm surprised that no one else has commented on this besides Eric. The more I've had to deal with these later ecu's the more I understand why many tuners prefer to convert over to the earlier S13 ecus . If this open loop / closed loop threshold calibration function could be figured out and defined i...

Bump on this post, just curious if you have had a chance to make any progress with this.

VE table and open / closed loop threshold on 70F05 95 S14
I ran into something interesting last night while tuning a KA-T with a 1995 ecu. The car had a stock SR T25 turbo on it, and made boost at very low throttle angles. From tuning the last 95 ecu with a VE table, I learned that you cannot change the flag to open loop in the fuel tables. So if the flags...

Re: R32 RB26 running witout MAF or only one MAF
Thanks for the input, I'm hoping that wiring the two maf inputs together will work. I think using the MAF, as suggested, would be the way to go, but if he does not go for it, then I will try the simulated MAF output from a AEM FIC.

That's slick, do you mind telling me where you got the adapter for the MAF, or did you have to make it .

Re: R32 RB26 running witout MAF or only one MAF
I did mention that to him, apparently he says it barley runs, possible because it has cams and is a built motor, he did re-install the stock injectors however. Also, he specifically did not want to install a blow trough because of the aesthetics . Good thoughts though. I'm wondering if the ecu actua...
