Hi Petros, Excellent work! It's great to see people actually doing some research and working out the real reasons behind things. Yes, the stock turbo certainly works well at around stock boost levels. So if you guys rebuilt the turbo does this mean they're plain bearing or do you have the facilities...

Hi Petros, I'm not sure if the RB25's go batch fired up top. The only ones I've seen do it are the CA18's. On the bench there's a distinct chnage in the sound the injectors make. I can only assume that it's so they can get good resolution at low load and then they fire the injectors twice as often u...

I'll leave that one for Matt but it may have to do with how CA's go from sequential to batch fired injection at a certain RPM/load.

Oh, forgot...

Duty cycle went to 45% at 7000rpm. Which is obviously rubbish.

I just went through the raw log file and injection time is actually being logged as 7.7ms max. Which I assume is out by a factor of 2.

Z32 AFM went to 4.6V max which sounds about right for 280rwkw.

Yes, it does feel good on the road. Looking at the boost curve you'd expect it to be a bit lazy but the power curve tells the story. And this is backed up on the road. I would have liked to tune it using the factory turbo to see what we could get out of it. As it was we just ran it up, tweaked the b...

Fitting JUST a Z32 AFM tends to throw things out a long way because the K constant changes so much. K constant affects everything, so you'll find that you'll have to do a lot of adjusting to get things nice again. If you are going to fit bigger injectors then I suggest you do it now as it will bring...

Yep. I actually wrap the whole mic carrier in sound insulating material and then often I'll even wrap a rag around that. Leaving just a small hole going to the mic. This is then stuffed under the inlet manifold facing the block.

Think I've said this before, but it's a lot easier to actually hear knock if you use a microphone that's insulated from the engine, rather than connected to it. This allows you to hear the important knock sound without all the mechanical clattering going on inside the engine.

A lot of people tend to place a lot of emphasis on the fact that AFM's represent an airflow restriction. In reality this is a few KW's worth at most. While the advantages are largely overlooked. The biggy for me is that they make the system inherently flexible when it comes to engine mods. Change an...

Yeah, that's what I did with the GA. Once target idle was increased to match real idle speed the timing moved up to where it should be.

Which car/engine/ECU part number are we talking here? I saw a similar weird problem once and it was because we were running the wrong base image in the board. It was an N15 Pulsar and we tried running a U13 base image. It would start fine, then during warmup it would go into limp mode at about 65 de...

Hey John, This may or may not be related, but I was doing some messing around with SR20 and GA16 stuff (not sure if CA is the same) and found the following: They use both AAC and IGN timing to trim idle speed. This can really mess you up when watching IGN timing at idle but makes sense once you real...

I get a lot of people asking about running MAP sensors with Nissan ECU's so I thought I'd do a bit of research. Idea being that we should be able to just use a standard MAP sensor and as long as we could convert the output to be 0 to 5V like an AFM then it should basically function. I'm sure there'd...

Some Nissan ECU's will get very upset if the speed signal isn't present. I don't think it affects the tuning so much as the actual running of the engine. They will simply injector cut at a certain point. S13 SR20DE is a classic for this. I do wiring looms for engine conversions, so I've now seen thi...
