[SOLVED] no speed displayed and power steering sw crazy

Post by _KeRNeL_ »

Hi all!!

Here a newbie from Spain trying to get started. I got my license few weeks ago and already made some tuned maps but I'm still waiting to test them until I sort out few issues I have with the hardware just installed today:

My car: 200SX S13 (Euro Spec) with CA18DET, 44F07 ecu, last address & rom & nistune just downloaded today

The first issue is that I can't monitor vehicle speed in nistune, although speed in the dashboard works fine. Unless there are two speed sensors, one for the dashboard and another one for the ECU, I think it may be sofwtare issue due to the following:

The second thing I found is when looking at the power steering SW box in the consult gauges panel, it never goes red when static even if I turn the steering wheel but as soon as I start driving the car, the box goes red and white very quickly, no matter if I turn or not, so I think it can be related somehow with the speed consult gauge problem.

Have you got any ideas on what's going on??? I am really impatient to test it propperly!!!! but I always prefer to ask before I mess it up :D

Thank you guys ;) ;) ;) ;)

Ignore the power steering switch. I dont think CA18 has it (need to check this one)

As for speed sender, on Nissans I've seen so far the signal to the speedo clutch gets converted to square pulses and then passed onto the ECU. Now I know the speed sensor input display works inside Nistune which means it might not be getting that signal from your dash?

ok then, I will take care of the FSM and start testing wires :S so boring :(

Thank you Matt!!!! ;) I was eagerly waiting to use the speed trials function hehehe

well, I have isolated the problem reading the FSM, there is only one speed sensor in the transmision, which goes to the dashboard (the speedo works fine there) and from the dashboard it is routed to the ECU via pin 53, so it can be either my dashboard or its harness or the wiring between dashboard and ecu ECU :)

i'll post here any advances, i hope it can help someone in the future :P

Well,

the problem disappeared by itself :O i guess it was related to the plasma gauges causing interferences with the signal conversor in the dashboard (high frequency & voltage inversor was too close).

now I tested many times in daylight and no probs :)

BUT then I found another interesting thing: in the logs and consult gauges the DUTY CYCLE is displays HALF the value that it shows when you select a cell in the map. in fact with stock 370's I can't even reach 40% at max load which seems to be wrong as I'd be close to max out the injectors (240hp more or less)

its because switching between sequential and batch fire. The ECU halves the injection pulsewidth which then throws out the duty cycle

There is no way to know when it switches inside Nistune to know when it doubles (and update the display calcs to compensate) so you will mentally have to double that figure when it switches over

okay then batchfire shows only half the duty cycle that really is, meaning 40 equals to 80% duty :) good

so, the value displayed when selecting cells in the map is actually valid :).

I want to know it cause I have 4 or 6 cells in the top right of the map which tell 100% duty and I don't even want to get near them hehehe

those numbers are mainly theoretical. when you change injection multiplier everything changes
