MAF compatibility question: HPX 05+ MAF (for Ford Mustang)
Been researching blow-thru MAFs and looked at this slot option:
http://www.vmptuning.com/store/index.ph ... &parent=30
Just wondering if this will work with NISTUNE. I noticed the Lightning/Cobra MAF will work with NISTUNE, so I was thinking this would work just as well (also comes with IAT sensor)
Cheers

Well you are going to need to build a VQ_Map for that thing. I have been considering this for a while but don't have the resources or the know how to come up with my own VQ_Map.
Re: MAF compatibility question: HPX 05+ MAF (for Ford Mustang)
it is included in the latest beta.
Re: MAF compatibility question: HPX 05+ MAF (for Ford Mustang)
so would my tuner understand what the VQ_Map is?
When did the latest beta come out? I'm seriously considering swapping over to this set up soon as my VQ45 MAF has been buggering a lot + maxed out last time I tuned on dyno.
Could I get away with just a plug in Mustang GT MAF? I couldn't find a cobra/lightning MAF in this format (05+ plug in style) My goal is only 400WHP.
cheers

It will be on the website, there is a drop down list of MAFs to select from

Mike doesn't VMP sell a blow thru set for the lightening MAF? You can also check with jgy customs or JWT for the lightening MAF as well. Where are you located?

Update on this.
I purchased the VMP HPX 05+ maf and had Racing Greed Racing in Port Coquitlam, BC to fabricate the piping and wire/tune the car.
I am very, VERY pleased with Racing Greed and its owner, Tommy for all the work they did for my car.
I would recommend them to anyone in the Vancouver, BC area for Nistune tuning.
Check them out @ http://www.racinggreed.com
Some pix to throw up for future references. There weren't much info on this MAF but I bit the bullet and just decided to be the bush-wacker. Yes it would have been easier and cheaper for me to go w/ the typical Z32 draw-thru or regular Lightning MAF, but I just wanted to see what this MAF could do. I made the choice to go with this MAF and stick with it.

Congrats on breaking new ground! It's hard to take that step into the unknown. How big is your intercooler pipe? I know with my Lightning maf the size seems to make a difference so far.
Re: MAF compatibility question: HPX 05+ MAF (for Ford Mustang)
Ya thx. I could have taken your route, but I really, really wanted to be a bit different.
The IC piping I have is 3" and the tuner had a bit of a problem trying to match my map w/ the MAF. If I had more HP, then the MAF would have been great. Oh well, room for improvement down the road I guess.
I love this MAF so far, and mostly BLOW THRU.
mmm

Hi thanks for breaking the ice for all of us, we are also exploring BT option and this AFM is now number one option for us, so when You said "problem" do You mean when he try to match Yours previous map just changing VQ map for new AFM or is he had problems with mapping with this new AFM?Mike Kwon wrote: and the tuner had a bit of a problem trying to match my map w/ the MAF. Does it have problems with low flow (on idle) with smaller engines?
BTW You said it have IAT? Do You have lookout table for it so we can use it's build in IAT for logging?
Also what is Yours engine/turbo spec?
Thanks for answers ...
Re: MAF compatibility question: HPX 05+ MAF (for Ford Mustang)
Thx.
Ya know, I read hours after hours on Mustang/Ford forums for figuring out how to make this IAT sensor useful for my application (ie: make it seen on a gauge or somewhere at least)
I figured IAT @ the MAF would be a very cool info. Nothing necessary, but neat indeed.
However, I can't find any info on how to integrate it. It seems the Mustang boys just use an extender from their ECU and view it there. Their ECU uses the IAT info for fuel control hehe.(also causes lots of problems from what I've seen)
Yes, the low flow was the headache for the MAF.
in a 3" tubing, it can read to "700RWHP" as stated on VMP site. I'm at a peep more than half of that @ the wheels @ 16PSI. They said the resolution wasn't good enough for the MAF to be utilized perfectly.
ie: Problem was it being too rich in the higher rpm/load, but they scaled it enough to make it better. Any suggestions would be awesome though!
My set up for hardware:
RB20DET (refreshed with ARP, MLS, etc..)
Garrett GT3071R .63R
Tial 38mm WG
3.5" turbo back
550cc Deutschwerk injectors
Nistune
HKS 264 9.0 INT cam
Tomei 256 8.5 EXT cam
Front facing plenum
those are the main power parts.
cheers

Re: MAF compatibility question: HPX 05+ MAF (for Ford Mustang)
so idle and light load is ok - not rich?
As we are planning to use it on SR20det with TS GT3076 ...

Re: MAF compatibility question: HPX 05+ MAF (for Ford Mustang)
looks nice, how easy is to connect it with Nistune ?
Re: MAF compatibility question: HPX 05+ MAF (for Ford Mustang)
The ecu is in an open loop @ the moment.
AFR's when warmed up:
Idle: 14.5-15.3 (was steady at 14.6-9 before but developed an exhaust leak on a long cruise recently, just before o2 sensor too fuuuuu)
entering load: 14.3-13.5
entering boost: mid 13's
full boost: 12.5-11.5
One quick question, now whenever I boost, the AFR is 14.5-14.8.... This is ridiculously lean! but could the exhaust leak cause this much discrepancy? Idle just bounces around that 14.5-15.3 range, where as it was steady before the leak.
The leak is very, very small and I can only hear it when revving the motor. Car still boosts hard and hasn't knocked. It just felt really bad for me to see a number higher than 12 ON BOOST. I thought an exhaust leak that affected boost readings that much would also affect idle significantly (like 16-18+)
Input much appreciated.
Gotta fix this damn exhaust leak.
