I think this is more of a software problem
Does this happen when revs increase by any chance? I'm having a look into the new problem with consult disconnecting soon

You shouldn't need to do something as drastic as that....
What are the frequency of the disconnects that you are experiencing?
If you can enable logging during one of the runs when it disconnects
File - Configuration - Debug Logging
Then email me the log file from c:\Program Files\NIStune\logs
I can have a look at it. I had some problems with consult on an R32 ECU on the bench last week so I think it could be a similar issue

from the logs definately looks like errors on the consult line. the received data was corrupted and didn't match the sent data, so it barfed
try connecting in 'logger mode' and see if the guages are glitching. if so then you may have noise on the consult lines causing corruption
