A/D dlp strange readings !

Post by ar99kid »

here are the things...

wideband PLX gauge with SM-AFR
egt PLX gauge with SM-EGT
map AEM 50psi map sensor
dlp ch1 AFR analog from plx , ch2 map from mao sensor , ch3 egt analog from plx
i used 5v out from dlp to power the map sensor
all grounds together form dlp and gauges to the chassis
nistune configured to read from wideband/a/d dlp directory , comunication com5 , everything is working ...reading
i have dlp IO8 board and connected to nistune ( latest jan 2011 version 0.9.14.21) . from plx site i have made the following tables in the files for afr and egt , from aem i made the map file:

afr1 same with aux1 , because i am not used with lambda values i put aux1 afr ...

the problem is that everything is out of scale ....
1. afr is showing aporx 3units richer on nistune then on the plx gauge
2. somehow egt (aux3) is working like the map should so when hit the throttle and leave it , nistune egt gauge (aux3) reads 1500*C and when idle is 400* so is following the map sensor
3. the nistune map gauge (aux2) works like the egt should , at engine cold is -10 and as the engine is getting warm is growing to -5

something like the signal from aux2 is crossed and shown in aux3 gauge but in aux3 units and viceversa...

can someone help me with it / is it something that i did wrong ? i have read on the forums that there is a common problem for afr to not show exactly , but a 3-4 units out of scale is way to much and also the other aux inputs are messed up...

thanks in advance and sorry for long post !

more testing ...more strange things ...

i have disconnected all inputs and gnd from dlp , only afr wire input left on :
1. afr on nistune is 10 and stable no meter what afr is on the gauge
2. erased everything in the aux4 ,aux5 , aux6 files so should read 0 , but aux4 is named "T" in nistune , aux5 still named aux5 and aux6 is again named "T" even if the files are empty so they shouldn't have any name
3. afr is showing some numbers when i touch the map signal wire on the aux2 where it should have been ... this makes me think is something with grounds being together ? what is the right ground setup ?

Been testing with next version to come out. Using boost sensor in my DLP folder

Aux 1 = boost (PSI)
PSI
0000,-1.57
1000,6.134
2000,13.84
3000,21.54
4000,29.25
5000,36.97
Aux 2 = volts (same sensor)

The volts reflect on the multimeter as what I see on the screen and boost matches what my lookup table is coded for. Try this out when 0.10 version is released

thanks for this info matt !

what i didn't understand at first is that from the DLP aux 1 input is not the same with nistune aux 1 ! i get the conclusion that DLP aux 1 is basicaly afr 1 in nistune , aux 2 DLP is afr 2 nistune , aux 3 DLP is aux 1 in nistune ... here is something that wasn't very clear speciffied in the nistune manual how to physical connect the wires in the DLP coresponding to what nistune is reading in different locations ... a bit difficult for me to explain , but i think that you got the picture .

so my setup right now (and is working great ) is afr1 ( file filled with corespondig values) , afr2 empty , aux1 same with afr1, aux2 is MAP values , aux3 is EGT values . on the DLP setup is aux 1 and 3 is lambda wire , aux4 is MAP wire and aux5 is EGT wire .

here is a short table to get better picture :

NISTUNE files DLP coresponding input wires
afr1 = aux1
afr2 =aux2
aux1 =aux3
aux2 =aux4
aux3 =aux5
aux4 =aux6
aux5 =aux7
aux6 =aux8

hope this will help somebody else ...

Yes I understand the confusion! Will have to clear this up somehow by making internal modifyable lookup tables instead. For DLP:

Wideband = 1 (DLP)

DLP AUX1 = AFR (LHS)
DLP AUX2 = AUX1
DLP AUX3 = AUX2
DLP AUX4 = AUX3
DLP AUX5 = AUX4
DLP AUX6 = AUX5
DLP AUX7 = AUX6

Wideband = 2 (DLP)

DLP AUX1 = AFR (RHS)
others not used
