rb20 on an hx!! anyone done this

Post by supersayianjim »

Hi people. So i have a question for anyone that has done a hx swap on these engines. i know i don't do drugs and iam not old enough ffor alzheimers. But i could had sworn there was a thread on nicoclub of a fellow who stuck a hx35 on a rb20 engine.

Now i used search and just like the search engine on most sites it was useless. and even google couldn't find me what i needed.. So if anyone has a link or is the guy shoot me some info..

But on a broaded request. Seeing as my rb is my daily i was waiting to finish my sc swap untill i did anything more than stock mods to my car.. So my nistune has been sitting idly by as the only mod i have made to it was max out the mph. I don't know shit about k-consatnt or any of that shit..

Yeah i can get it street tuned. But again this is my daily. So i went out of state and this past friday night went racing a little too hard.

as you can see i got walked. due in part cause the 1st 2 races here i couldnt get a good start and the fact that my damn turbo is so slo for full boost. and it's not made for top end= my car is slow. so at the end of that 3rd race my ic pipe did seperate, but for 2 reasons. The t clamped pipe wasn't flanged. and the oil from the cold side of the turbo caused it to slip off.. But that wasn't the only thing. after that i had a misfire. I figured it was the plugs fouling out from being too rich(there is only 93 oct up there). So the next day i went to change my plugs. and found

a unplesant suprise in cylinder 1 and 6 plugs..

so yeah platnum tip plugs suck. Back to coppers for me.

But again back on topic. My turbo is slowly leaking and it's time for an upgrade. i have this hx30w sitting around for months. Wanted to wait till i had a daily to change it. But seems like i have no choice but to do it now. I have one shot to do this and i need to know which plug/or plugs on the block to block off as i think i only need a oil feed to this(or do i need a coolant feed)?? this is why iam asking.

I don't have a HX35, never really liked that turbo because you need to run a crap load of boost into it to make ok power. I have a Precision SC61 turbo on my RB20. It's a old news turbo now but I'm belted out close to 400whp @ 18psi with it. I would say dump that HX30 in the trash and save some money for a PTE 5756 billet wheel turbo. From what I heard it performs better than the SC61 and will spool up faster.

Any way to your question. If the HX30 is ball bearing you need to run coolant into it. If not just oil feed. I blocked off my water return line on the block and the feed line at the fuel rail on my turbo install.
