Want some advice

Post by F3600 »

I want some advice for *tuning* my car.

I included a picture of my afr trace ,my bin and a log.

The spec of the car

VG30ET 9:1 comp
450 CC DSM injectors
stock fuel pump (will be upgraded to a walbroo soon)
turbo is a stock exhaust housing with a t4 compressor. Running 8 psi.
stock maf
Innovate LC-1 WB

thx for any input. BTW, its the first time im playing with a computer and i'm trying to learn the best i can. Just want to be sure, i will not blow up my engine with this tune. I didnt play with timing setting.

thank you.

My k value is somewhat high for 450cc but its running good at this setting.
lower than that its leaning how pretty bad and there a lot of misfire.

F3600, My only comment on this is it is a really rough map, you want to tidy that up a bit. You will have problems with knowing what is going on with a map like that.

My only comment F3600, judging only by the screen shot, is that your ecu is configured very well. Your K number would seem to be set just about perfectly, and your A/F targets are good both ecu-configuration wise and appropriate for respective area.

What does it idle at exactly? AF 15-17:1? or 14:1? If 14:1, as the AF plot would almost indicate, then you can try lean the idle area just a bit more, (on the table, not the K number) as much as you can before it becomes unstable. This will help conserve fuel without negative side effect, much like your light, off throttle AF (which is entirely appropriate).

Edit: and like Fusion Ed mentioned, your table could use a little smoothing. Very simple and effective now that you have K well sorted.

hey sorry ! I was busy for some weeks now..

I will smooth the map a bit. At idle i'm around 1000 and 700 (hot) and my af are about 12.5 13 .

When in fifth gear and trying to make some boost (at low rpm) my af are pretty high around 14 15 and it start pinging at 1-2 psi of boost .. if i downshift to fourth my af drop in the 11.9 11.0 and boost normally withtout any pinging.

This morning it was pretty hot outside and im running no intercooler. It was pinging at around 2-3 k but my engine was running hot (dash gauge is in the middle but nistune register around 98 (think its due to the single row rad). I should swap for a better radiator. I will try to make some new log in the next days. BTW, I tried to do record a log and my lC1 wasnt recording.. it was displaying fine but when i start the replay my af is always the same..

anyway, if i see this problem again i will post it in the right forum.

thx for your comment !

I smoothed the map a bit. I have some problem with some part throttle boost knock. If start to boost smoothly checking my af gauge slowly going around 13 12 and drop it harder to continue everything is going fine. If punch the throttle my af take some time to go to 12 11 and im hearing some knock or ping ( shaking a can full of midget) :)

Temp was around 31 outside (87f) full blown sunny day.
Engine temps was a litlle high for my taste (last log). I really need a turbo rad or custom aluminum one.

Do you think my pinging issue is because i'm running kinda hot and there some area over the fuel map that need a litlle bit more fuel ? Well thats my conclusion.. correct me if im wrong

Anyway, thats all for today ..
Thanks for the help !
I love nistune :)

PS: lol ..damn i think i used another map because looking at the picture the fuel map doesnt look the same.. .. i need to be much more organized with my bin.. Well im learning ..

not looked at the logs yet, but pinking if any will be due to ignition more than fuel, that is if your fuel is below 13 afr.

When you say ignition problem ..is it because i need colder spark plug ? an ignition amp ? the only way i stop hearing them is running a hi K value to get 9 AFR on boost

now my engine run at 11 afr to be safe when boosting
15 16 afr cruising
timing is at 15-16 deg *the Ecu is a 20 deg 88 automatic ecu.

my timing map is the same as a stock 88 nothing exotic there.
fuel map are modified but i only added fuel everywhere folowing the stock map.

ill send the bin if someone want to try it.

the engine seems to run fine.. boosting and hauling ass. Im starting to wonder if this is not some clunking because of a loose parts somewhere..

If you think its pinging it probably is, DON'T IGNORE IT - IT WILL KILL YOUR ENGINE.

I tried to look at your logs but they are not clear, to really help I need to see a 3rd gear run from idle to the RPM limit. THEN I can help. Log AFR, IGN, and RPM.

Ok I had to open that in excel as it wouldn't open in nistune. It looks like your running way too much advance, expecially since your 9:1 comp. Do you have an intercooler? If not then im not surprised that the engine is unhappy. Even if you did I would hope you had good fuel. Your AFR's are also WAY to rich the datalog is showing high 9's? You really should target for around 11.5 at the MOST, if it pings REMOVE ignition.

thx for the tips ! ill let you know how it going in the next day. i know my AF are pretty rich i was trying to get rid of the pinging... but i never really touched the ignition thinking it was allright.

I"m filling the car with 94 octane. I have no intercooler at the moment.
