Is there a guide for tuning type 3 boards? It seems that the documentation available for download at nistune is more for type 2 boards.
I'm confused about how to adjust fuel...I've heard that I should be adjusting the VE map instead of the fuel map?
And what is the difference between RAW and FILTERED?

There's very little difference between the actual tuning across all boards. In the end they all achieve the same thing. The differences you'll find relate more to the age of the ECU. Older ones tend to have more basic parameters available. Newer ones introduced stuff like VE maps and boost control maps.
Raw mode shows values exactly how the ECU sees them. Filtered is same as raw except it filters out the extra bit(s) which get set for closed loop mode (fuel map) or knock sense active (timing map).
Without understanding binary it's a bit hard to explain but the bottom line is that when these extra bits are set, the values will have an extra 128 or 192 added to them. In raw mode you'll see how some of the cells have crazy big values? That's cos they have these extra bits set, which is adding 128 or 192 to the values. Using Filtered mode removes these extra bits so the figures look normal.
I usually use "Filtered" and then click the "Flags" button so these cells display with a blue colour to them.

Oh - forgot. You can use either VE maps or Fuel maps for tuning mixtures. I find it easier to just tune the fuel maps, but others do use VE maps.

Thanks...I was wondering about those "crazy big values" in the timing map...it didn't occur to me that was where knock sensing was taking place

'Filtered view' will normalise all the values (removing 128 from knock cells on the display)
