Windows 7 64 bit and FTDI Drivers

I got a new Intel laptop with Windows 7 SP1, 64 bit. I have a type 2 board. I have a blazt cable.

I installed the ROM pack and Nistune 10.11. Went to connect and Nistune would not connect.

I then get the FTDI 64 bit drivers, version 2.08.14, from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm.

I tried installing the FTDI drivers per FTDI's instructions, but when I attempted to install the driver I got:

Windows was unable to install you CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller.
Windows could not find driver software for your device.

And yes I was pointing at the correct directory/location.

I also tried installing the drivers via FTDI's CDM20814_Setup.exe. I was then able to manually select this driver and force it to install, but Nistune would not connect.

At this point I assumed that FTDI does not support the CP2102 USB to UART Bridge Controller?

I then did a google and found Silicon Labs has CP210x USB to UART Bridge Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers.

I installed them and Nistune is now able to connect. I was able to download my ECU ROM and check trouble codes. I didn't try anything else.

What are other people doing? Anybody now why FTDI doesn't seem to support the CP2102 USB to UART Bridge?

PS: I also tried the drivers in the Nistune directory and got the same error. C:\Program Files (x86)\Nistune\FTDI_Win2K_XP_Vista_Drivers

If your cable doesn't use an FTDI chipset then it's probably not going to be much use trying to install FTDI drivers.

It has nothing to do with NIStune - the consult cable is a separate thing. You can use any cable you like but you gotta load the drivers that match the cable.

I am using a Blazt cable. Does anybody know if there are Windows 7 64 bit drivers for this cable?
Does anybody know what happened to www.blitz.biz? Are they out of business?

Is there a recommended cable that works with Windows 7 64 bit?

FTDI reckon their 2.08.14 drivers support Win7 64 bit. I've currently got 2.08.12 on the PLMS site - Looks like it's time for me to upgrade the FTDI drivers for our cables again!

Yeah, that's because (by the looks of it) your cable does not use an FTDI device. It must have the Silicon Labs device.

Did some Blazt cables use Silicon Labs while other Blazt cables use FTDI?

The older Blazt cables used this particular chipset before they moved to the FTDI chipset like with PLMS/ECUtalk cables

You will need to google and see if they have made 64 bit drivers for that chipset, otherwise you are stuck with 32 bit machines on that cable

Not sure if they are out of business or their website just down at the moment. Havent heard anything else otherwise to indicate this

I did a little more digging...
My old laptop that worked with my Blitz cable used drivers from Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc.
It turns out Silicon Labs purchased Cygnal. Given this, I am probably using the correct drivers for my version of the Blazt cable.
