MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?

MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?
Hi all,
I bought a 350z MAF sensor (z33 then) on the spur of the moment because it was cheap and I saw it in the VQ maps list.
Part number 22680 CA000 (apparently compatible with the Maximas, Altimas and a few other cars too)
I've since found out the wiring pinout etc, but then I realised something.
its either a VQ30DE, OR a z33. It can't be both, cos the z33 only came with the VQ35 engines.
So which is it?
Also the VQ map itself looks dodgy, it has two holes in it that shouldnt be there. I was just going to fill them in, average them out with the general line, but maybe theres a reason that the holes are there?
Anyways I havent tried it yet because I'm waiting for a silicon reducer to make it fit my existing setup.
If this sensor can actually flow 400bhp it will be PERFECT and hopefully people will stop having to use the ancient overpriced z32 AFMs when they rarely want all that much power!
any help would be great.
Cheers

Definately Z33 so the VQ35DE. The original VQ map supplied had those holes and I had fixed it. For some reason that version never saved in my file repository
I've fixed it now with the updated version. Please find attached the files to overwrite in the Documents\Nistune\VQ Maps folder

awesome, thanks!
Re: MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?
Hey does anyone know the wiring for these sensors?
the manual I got for a 2006 350z says AFM wiring is
pin 2: 12v
pin 3: ground
pin 4: signal
But my AFM isnt showing any signal voltage with this wiring dunno if its a broken sensor or if this wiring is wrong!
Anyone got any clues?
Cheers

Re: MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?
If its like the R35 sensor, first two pins are likely AIT (air intake sensor) and then other four wires chasis ground, sensor ground, sensor output and 12V (not necessarily in that order)
The plug wiring should show which is which. Might be time to google Z33 AFM pinouts to find out for sure

Re: MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?
Ive got the 2005 maxima manual as well and both say the same wiring, so I must have got it right.
New (well, secondhand) sensor on its way.

Re: MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?
so... I had the wrong wiring. The manuals were all correct - but were looking at it from the harness point of view, with 6 terminals, while the sensor only has 5
This is what its supposed to be like. Anyone else that's interested - no need to thank me for making your job easy.
From my calcs, it isnt capable of 400bhp though. I had to lower the auto-corrected K constant quite a lot. Its reached 4.7V on my setup at around 280bhp, meaning that at 100% it should read enough air for 350-360bhp.
From what I've experienced of it driving though, it doesnt suffer reversion effects like s14/z32, no shuddering or popping like it used to with my setup (blanked BOV). Fits an Apex'i air filter nicely on the inside bore.
Overall - great upgrade from stock for £35

Re: MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?
Thanks for the pic. Its the same as the R35 MAF insert. I couldnt find my diagram so had to look at the one on my car
There is a small A and F on the MAF insert itself. A is no pin and blocked off on the connector plug. I'll update the MAF pinouts on the website (going to move to a separate doc)Wire A – No pin. N/C
Wire B (Red) – MAF 12V
Wire C (Black) – MAF ground
Wire D (White) – MAF signal
Wire E (Brown) – AIT signal N/C
Wire F (Black) - AIT ground N/C
Re: MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?
Nice! Apart from the same VQ30DE mistake again, lol.
So are the r35 GTR AFM inserts already calibrated for 500bhp each? Cos you can already get s/h ones for a reasonable price...
Also, if I go blow-though, will it increase or decrease the resolution?
Cheers

Part numbers:
AFH70M-389226 22680 7S000 (LHS)
AFH70M-389212 22680 7S000 (RHS)
From this ebay listing apparently compatible with 142 different Nissan types (this listing is for a second hand sensor)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/04-10-350Z-Arma ... 0846018856
Pete emailed me this link for apparent genuine AFMs:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/100-OEM-BRAND-N ... eb&vxp=mtr
As for VQ maps between the R35 and Z33 given that the part numbers are the same I lined them up. The R35 (LHS) and Z33 sensors share almost the same VQ map (slightly richer on the Z33 curve in the middle) which makes sense
I dont think going blow through will change the resolution much at all. I noticed on my R31 some K adjustment was required but not much

Re: MAF VQ map for z33 VQ30DE - something not quite right?
Here is a Z33 pigtail, going by Munkel and Matt I assume wiring is the same as R35, just different colours.
Pic is the same orientation as Munkels pic.
Wire A – No pin. N/C
Wire B (Pink/gray dot) – MAF 12V
Wire C (Black/White) – MAF ground
Wire D (Orange) – MAF signal
Wire E (Green/White) – AIT signal N/C
Wire F (Blue) - AIT ground N/C
On a related note, anybody have a lookup table for the AIT signal on these?

That sounds about right. Where did you get that one from? We are having trouble locating the connectors

I bought my Z33 MAF used with the pigtail cut off the original loom from this trader:Matt wrote:That sounds about right. Where did you get that one from? We are having trouble locating the connectors

I don't know much about him but he does sell lots of new Genuine Nissan odd bits of pieces including MAF's so probably worth asking if he can supply.
I'm see'ing a peak of 4.76v 6562rpm on stock journal t28 turbo 17psi peak but by then it's down to about 14-15psi. Nicely sized for my car.
It does not seem to suffer from reversion with no BOV, Z32 MAF seemed to be particularly bad for this. Last night was the first test with this Z33 MAF, cold night. Here is a log and my current map for anyone who wants a look. Map is currently being tweeked a fair bit.
stock cleaned injectors @ 4.2ish bar with vac hose connected, stock journal turbo peaking 17-18psi and tailing of to about 14-15psi
The speed is wrong, always has been. Says I was doing 150+mph in 3rd which I'm clearly not. Any idea why? Tyre size is correct. Car dash is correct (as OEM)

Nice, thanks for the info both Immy and matt.
I dont understand how you have a TP peak of 124 at 4.5k and a lower TP of 104ish at 6k+?
Also my injectors are at 100% duty cycle to get around 11.5:1 AFR so I think mine probably need cleaned... just as well i have some 440's to put in
