R32 ECU 11U10 cooked IC14 (possible resistor pack)

Post by bachig24u »

Hi Matt,
A customer just brought his trusty 11U10 ECU back too me after a few years that has previously ran;
an RB20DET in R32
then
RB25DET in an R33 with V4 firmware version.

now he installed the 11U10 w/V4 firmware back in his R32 to run his RB25DET
and tried priming the fuel pumps and smelt horrific toasting component scent.

Sounds like the customer has rewired something wrong along the line.
He also mentioned, low fuel pump pressure during priming but from memory the RB20 has a pump controller and requires TPS 'off' condition to increase pump voltage.

Please can you advise if possible what IC14 controls so I can give him a starting point to go trace wiring looms back.

Any help greatly appreciated.

IC14 controls the coil driver outputs. Anything to do with coil packs would be a good start. Replacement ECU will be needed as these are a ceramic coated circuit board from Nissan

You may be able to use a similar device from R33 ECUs if you have any spare and exchange over

Thanks Matt.

I'll get it looked in to. maybe the coil pack loom is broken somewhere.

Found out that customer is using an RB25 ignitor module.

Can any confirm if they are interchangeable?

Should be fine in an R32 since we switch the ECUs to drive the module in the RB25s anyway

Thanks Matt.

I might have to go onsite and investigate this one.

UPDATE: Coil pack loom had a few cracked wires.
the loom was twisted during installation and was probably sending 12v back to the ECU via coil pack 1 return wire or ECU ground.
