Limiting my car to say 3000rpm so it can't be thrashed
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering what I should edit to make it so my car can't go over 3000rpm so it can't be thrashed if I leave it with a window tinting mob. Or let a relative drive etc.
And on another note could I make the vale lower than idle as a type of immobiliser, say if I was to go away for the weekend or had to leave the car out on the street one night.
Cheers.

Just set hard and soft limiters to 3000rpm and use low gears on the way there.
Re: Limiting my car to say 3000rpm so it can't be thrashed
What would happen if I set them to 500?
Would the car die post after_start_enrich 5 second duration? Would it be safe (so long as you didn't continue to crank and flood the engine)?

Why would you want to do that ? (unless you want to destroy the engine due to massive flooding and borewash)

That limiter only gets used once speed > 0 so I imagine the engine would stop once you reach over 1km/h

Anti-theft. On top of alarm/immobiliser and pulling the pump fuse.Eric wrote:Why would you want to do that ? (unless you want to destroy the engine due to massive flooding and borewash)

Better option would then be to disable all cylinders (similar as is done by the consult power balance test to switch off cylinders) and maybe disable the fuelpump-relay control (also an active test)
This is currently not possible with nistune (afaik) and would also mean altering some routines in the code of the ECU or having an
option to permanently set the registers used by the above consult active tests, which would basically do the same.
But I don't think using the ECU as some sort of anti-theft device would be very practical, as you'd need to carry a laptop with you all the time to arm/disarm it.
Much easier (and more effective) would be to pull the main EFI fuse...this disables everything ECU/EFI related and you won't be able to start the car either.

I wouldn't do this everyday, or every time I drive my car.
Maybe you go away for a long weekend. Currently I remove the ECU completely.
The problem with removing fuses is that there's a bunch of other fuses like the horn that could be utilised.
Anything to make things harder for them to steal my car is a bonus. So many cars are getting stolen lately. It will only get worse as the US are allowed to import them, parts will be in high demand.

Decent kill switch fitted somewhere tricky is usually the best option. Replacing the ECU is a breeze if someone really wants the vehicle
Re: Limiting my car to say 3000rpm so it can't be thrashed
Sure you can replace the ECU, if you're prepared and know what you're doing.

The screwdriver-punk usually goes for a quick steal and will give up fairly quickly if the car has been disabled by a good alarm/immobilizer.
If the car also has a decent and well hidden kill switch on top of that, it will be near impossible to get the car started within a couple of minutes.
professionals that really want your car will come with a flatbed and just load up the complete car...there's probably not much you can do against that other then storing/hiding the car inside a garage
Or... you could always do this:
