feature pack knock protection

Post by sr20truck »

Since the knock fuel and timing maps are removed with feature packs what engine protection does the feature pack provide in case of knock and how will I know its activated? I attempted to search for this in the training notes. Type 3 board in sr20det in mind.

it still retards timing on the type 4 boards, in R34 S15 etc so id assume its the same on type 3. I honestly haven't experienced any issues with knock on any of the type 3 cars on the dyno for ages so ive had no need to check for phantom retarding (the later r34 and s15 are renown for phantom retard so its something we are always recalibrating).

Knock protection is still fully active in the ECU. However it will not switch to the 'knock' or 'low octane' maps if continous knock reporting is occouring.

The second maps were moved for several reasons (you dont want it switching whilst tuning, the tune should be done safe on the primary maps and to free up 512 bytes of memory for flex maps)
