Z31 ECU

Post by Zedstar »

Friend of mine recently had 220cc injectors installed in his 85NA. Mechanic told him ECU would be fine , however as most of us know the ECU is tuned for 160cc. The car is naturally running very rich.

He cannot afford a Nistune Board at this stage. I have an 86 Turbo ECU (260cc injectors) which comes with a 28 pin EPROM. Is is possible to socket the EPROM and replace with Nistune stock bin with an adjusted K Constant as an interim measure ?

I am aware of the additional wiring required to the CPU etc for the Type 1 Board and the Z31 series 3 ECU is the preferred ECU for modification.

K constant will only move the TP (and help with fueling issue) but other scaling is required. Yes you can save files from Nistune to burn to chip

Thanks Matt

So am I correct is assuming that the EPROM in the 86 Turbo is standalone , whereas in the 84- 85 ECU Fuel and Timing maps are apparently included in two EPROMs . I have attempted to Read the 86 Bin but my programmer does not have the correct device software.

Managed to upload correct device software to programmer , read 86 chip and load it to Nistune. It definitely appears to be standalone .

1986 if it has 28 pin chip only (and not 24 pin next to it) is standalone

It does have a 24 pin chip next to it , but does appear to be standalone.

Both 16K and 1K chips need removing.

Other chips are AD (46510) RAM (NEC), processor (6802) and ASIC (JECS)

Thanks Matt

So with those cops removed the 86 ECU will be operational with reprogrammed 28 pin chip ?
