300zx set up

Post by Gonzo12c »

Hello everyone.

I’m setting up my Zed on a Nistune board and trying to get closer to a better tune than the base map before I can get to the shop for a full tune. I’m finding that I can’t use any of the newer feature pack base maps as it shows an error saying wrong one for my ECU. Details on my Zed are

1991 JDM Manual TT so have a type 2 ECU.

Looking at working through the tutorial the resize injectors seems to start at a figure of around 60k rather than the 512 I was used to before. Spec on my Zed is

Twin Z32 MAF on Selin translator (AVG mode)
2.5” Ashspec IC and I take piping
Ashspec massive ICs
58mm throttle bodies
Nismo 740cc injectors
HKS 2530 turbos
2.5”exhaust
Single AEM UEGO for now with other O2 sensor disconnected

What I’m hoping to do is to set up the Kconst to get the map running better as it seems to be quite lean at the moment. At the moment I’ve set the Kcont to 370 and injector latency to 740 but do not have the option to set the TIM it just doesn’t show up on the left. I’ve flattened out the fuel map raw values as the base fuel map is quite steep.

Thanks for the help in advance I’m learning slowly with Nistune it seems quite an easy platform to understand I just haven’t got the experience of knowing what the figure should be or look like.

I’ve been looking further into the setup and I’ve got a wideband hooked up. Went out to capture a log and it seems I am running rich across the board average 13.10. Would I firstly need to increase the kconst to get these figures up?

Hey been on holidays so just getting back into things.

It would be best and easiest if you were running feature pack. I load 31P0F on all USDM ECUs these days, so you must have a fairly old board? What part number displays inside Nistune when you connect (ECU ID?)

With twin Z32 in AVG mode you will have half the factory K constant with 370CC > 740CC injectors (around 144) so your TP load scales will need to be adjusted (about half) for fuel and timing

Your fuel map will end up also about half current values at top end so it doesn't go rich on boost

When you are at cruise, adjust K until about 14.7:1 and then adjust latency afterward so fix you idle

Ideally if you had feature pack with 31P0F loaded, the TIM would be halved and no load rescaling required

Thanks for the reply.

Let me get the board updated as it is around 2 years old now. I’ve looked at the pdf for updating it so I guess it’s just a case of opening it up and connecting.

Once I’ve done that I’ll be back with with more questions to get this set up better. 👍

Board needs removal, and reflashed with base image programmer. Most distributors (or myself) have a programmer to do this. We cannot update the ECU firmware whilst the ECU is running unfortunately. Firmware has been available for about 5 years...

I’ve just taken my ECU out to have a look. The ECU ID on connection is 23710-41P70 REV:14 (U).

I’ve taken a picture of the inside also as it does not look like I expected it to in the firmware update PDF.

Yeah no part# written on the board but 41P70 can use 31P0F as a feature pack replacement

Yeah get CZP to reflash it. Contact them, since they have a programmer to do the reflash

Ah ok problem with that is I’m in the UK and that are in the US. I wouldn’t want to have to send it back to them every time it needed an update. Is this something I can do myself therefore?

I’ve gone ahead and ordered a base image programmer board. I’m struggling to find any tuner in the UK that has one therefore weighing up the cost vs shipping my ECU overseas to be down is much better plus any future updates I’ll be able to do myself. I’ll jump back on with further questions Matt once it arrives 👍

Hey Matt so I’ve received the programmer board now seems it’s been updated since the last PDF instructions was sent out therefore I assume the board fits this was around and you still have to solder their J1 and PGM points together?

Yes that is correct. See the Base Image Programmer documentation on our website. It covers everything. You need that PGM jumper soldered too

Excellent thanks Matt. My board is a Rev 3 so didn’t need the power wire connecting. I’ve uploaded 31P0F onto it now. Having been speaking with CZP Nick said this is the one he uses as well so Is this just feature pack V1 upgrades as I don’t think I need the v2 elements?

I’ll be looking to get it back in the car soon and set things up on a base map before full tuning.

There is no V2 for Z32. I will add knock reporting firmware update to V1 in future (V1a?) but once that is done and tested. Still got to write the display code and test it all
