Counterfeit Z32 MAF sensors (pics)

i had a customer who bought one of the rip off z32 afms a while back. it had a red sticker instead of the normal orange one.

he got me to try and tune it... in order to get the fuelling even half close the fuel map looked like a mountain scape and was almost completely inverted compared to a normal looking one.

absolute waste of nearly 3 hours on the dyno.

in the end i made him buy a real one... i had it tuned perfect in no time.

Interesting! Mine has no nissan badge, but has protective/flow stabilizing mesh on both sides of it. p/n 22680-30P00, orange sticker.

All Z32 AFMs don't have the Nissan badge for some reason.. But just a look at the measuring wires will tell you if it's original or not.

... mine did not have any Nissan or other brand name molded into the plastic, but still it was a genuine Z32AFM.

The best way to check is to pry open the AFM casing and have a look.
Simple as that

some time ago we started for different reasons to measure all the Z32 AFM we are going to install in a car.

One day a customer brought us a aftermarket Z32 AFM (this chinese copy)

Have a look at the output voltage diagram.
The red line is a origin Nissan Z32 AFM. The green line is the

So the copy is actually delivering a lower voltage value vs. flow.
And that would make the car run too lean.

I still find it questionable why someone would copy these vintage AFMs
This is a niche market, and no high volume turnover involved.

Maybe it's not the Chinese after all, but some dude who buys off damaged ECUs
and gives them a makeover?

After reading the post I would think it is legit but who knows. Any help/insight would be great for fellow users also.

Yours looks exactly like one i bought on eBay. The element appears to be better quality than others that have been posted here, but I did notice a difference in using the N62 J30 MAF that I have. I had to adjust the injector latency from 900 on the knockoff to 600 (stock) on the J30 MAF.

I'm going to stick with OEM and what's known, so I'm keeping the J30 MAF.

so I was troubleshooting and I went to autozone and brought a afm with the core came out to $180 something around there. I tried it and my car wasn't running I later found out it was another issue.

any who anyone try these reman units from autozone or another u.s. parts store??

After a while of playing with the Z32 copies, I've come across another Jecs with the serial 4460A as pictured here and had the fake issue, but are the most real looking I have seen but havent cut it open.. Similar findings that the AFM hits 5V at around 300hp and is really rich in the middle.. you can get them to work however but dont expect two things
1. to have anything better in terms of capacity from a RB AFM.
2. to have to make a custom VQ table in order to use them.
3. to have to generate a new VQ table if it dies.. I had 2.. and both were different.. yes was pretty pissed off..
I drove on the fake Z32.. seemed pretty repeatable though and the temperature compensation want too bad..
If you were running an Apexi AFC, it would probably be ok.. but I'd want to be a little conservative, or run some wideband so you can keep an eye on things..

The MAF I have now has N62 etched in the circuit board pattern under the copper shielding. I'm good and legit for now but I wanted to expand my knowledge...

I know JECS was the original MFR What other brands can we trust?

Bosch should be good right?
What about Delphi? The z31 units run about $100 new and they became the OE MAF producer for newer model Nissans.

I recently purchased a so-called refurbished 22680-30P00 N62 MAF.
It looks to have exactly the same N62 internals (except the copper shielding missing, despite of some traces of soldering paste, but I'm 99% sure it has not been cracked open before me) than my OEM 300zx MAF but it gets surges when accelerating.
I suspect a fake 22680-30P00 N62 label on the MAF.
300zx MAF is good for 500hp and outputs nearly a 5V voltage when 500hp. This requires at least 22psi of boost to achieve 500hp. The MAF outputs 4.215V @8psi of boost: this is too high voltage for only 8psi of boost. My AFRs are bottom-ed (far too rich). I removed it immediatly.... it looks like only good for about 300hp
