another use for the boost maps

If it isnt a problem or a suggestion it probably goes here.

another use for the boost maps

Post by chris2712au »

hey guys was thinking about all this knock detection and what we have been trying to in order to integrate nistune into it... however the engine is either knocking or it isnt so the severity of the knock is a nice to have and not a need...

So taking this into account why couldnt we use the boost maps for knock detection I have now moved on to a blitz EBC so I have a spare output on the ECU... say we filled the knock boost map with 100... and hooked up a light to it... then when the ECU jumped to the knock maps you get a light warning you... or better still leave it hooked up to the manifold as well and use it for water / ethonal injection... programmable by RPM...

What do you think ?

well it is in.. just playing around with it at the moment... Although it is funny, I can use it to tell me when the ecu is accessing the knock maps... I can also use is as a programmable shift light..... and also a launch rpm light... and it is just bright enough to catch my peripheral vision.. I can make it flash or be always on...

It is a bit of a wank factor but beats having the two wires dormant in my engine bay..

Ahhhh, now I understand what you have done!!!

You use the output from the ECU to the original boost valve for new things as you have an aftermarkt boost controller.

Fine, I use an AVC-R so the wires to the original boost valve are unsed also. Nice ideas to use these wires for new things, especially the light if the ECU goes to the knock maps. :D

yeah it is pretty cool... seems to work ok... I still have a little more testing to do... but at least you can tell if the ECU is pulling timing...

There is also the VCT control wires if you are using adjustable cam gears that you could also use for something else... but that is either on or off.. it is not pwm modulated...

Hell PWM modulation on the boost solenoid wires could even run a fifth injector setup.... saving the expense of larger injectors... all these ideas.... :)

Hmmm, you have very creative ideas....

I think we must put this in our mind for eventually later use as an externally usable output from the ECU. :D

well it definitely proved the point that my ecu is jumping to the knock maps... maybe it is the VCT as it is stuffed triggering it as I dont hear knock.. might put the ears on it and have a listen.. then copy main maps to knock maps if it all is ok...

would be nice to have the knock count though :)

also a little more on the knock maps.... once the car hits the idle limit the car resets the knock maps back to the main for another try...

and it could be that the road speed has to be zero as well... seems like under decel my knock sensor goes off ? dont know why but then at the next set of lights it will reset itself... I have tried multiple scenarios to get it off the knock maps.. but it only seems to be idle at standstill that does the trick..

you can also cruze in idle for a while as in out of gear tps closed and it will reset... If you are generally accelerating and changing gears it wont.

Here is one more interesting use off wastegate ECU output(on S13 SR20):

http://eccs.hybridka.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1696

and little OT: is there any possibility for fan control on S14 SR20DET?
Using pin 19 & 33 from ECU , it now have two speed when A/C is off.
First on 95C and second on 100C it would be really great to put this first on 85C,
I now use Yashio factory controller on our demo car but would be much happier with NIStune control (we have really big temperature difference over the year)
Sorry for off topic...
