2 Q's: Win7 and Need advice on installing Ford MAF on RB26

Post by Z from Japan »

First quick question. I searched but didn't see this asked yet. Does Nistune run on Windows7?

Okay, so hopefully this week I will try my hand at installing a Ford Lightning 90mm MAF on my R32 GT-R RB26. Right now I am running a VPC+GCC but it just isn't as smooth as I would like - it is pretty old technology. So I got a 90mm Ford MAF that I will be installing in a 100mm pipe before the turbo.
As far as installation goes, I should be able to send the 5V signal from the MAF to both the stock MAF couplers on the harness.
On the software side, I should be able to change the VQ map and then go searching for a workable injector K constant.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this approach, and is there any other advice anyone has before I begin?

Windows 7 should be fine. I had a customer report it working several weeks ago with Nistune

Approach regarding the tuning seems feasible

They sell an adapter to put the Ford maf into the pipe to make it blow through. They sell them in mild steel and aluminum.

I'm curious to see how this works out with sending the signal from one maf to both ecu inputs. The other option would be a z32 ecu and re-pinning.

Hmm I wouldn't touch anything mild steel on the "intake" side of things, over time it will rust and rust flakes wouldn't be nice to the internals.

I ran mild steel on my Mitsubishi Eclipse turbo for years and never had a problem.

works fine i fit alot of RB26 power fc's into rb20's and rb25 etc running one maf. The factory ecu runs fine when run the same way.

Re MAF fitment - just make sure you do everything possible to keep airflow through the MAF nice and smooth. It seems the bigger the dia the more critical this becomes. Which makes sense cos the air velocity at idle/light load would be less.

Keep MAF as far as possible from compressor inlet and use a venturi inlet into the MAF if possible. Many air filters have these now anyway.

Recently heard a good story about fitting one of these 90mm units. The guy was running no air filter (!!!) and his rad fan was upsetting the MAF reading at idle!
