thanks vlguy, It just threw me off track as the auto (jatco box) has another electronic sensor at the tranny end also, I think it's just for the auto computer though. Who would have though that a dash would send a signal off to the ecu!!!
I'm going to put a hand drill on the end dangling under the car when I next get a chance to see what happens in Nistune.

Confirmed yesterday,
in an auto, there are 2 speed sensors (in most cases unless the car was previously converted to auto). instru cluster sends signal to ECU. down at the Jatco trans end there is also a speed sensor but it is dedicated to the ATM only and has no connection to ECU.
in a manual there is only the instru cluster one as it doesn't have the ATM under the drivers dash..
Thanks for all your help on this. all we need now is a custom speedo cable to get the input to register!!

No VL jatco box had speed sensors, they were all drives for the speedo cable, and speedo signal came from the dash.
R31s had an electronic speedo gear and no cable, so id say you have an early r31 4n71b jatco

Hi Thevlguy,
Have you had any issues (intermittent) with speed reporting back into Nistune?
the Dash Cluster reports ok, but its purely mechanical.
so I may have a dead speed circuit bd.

yes it is pin 29 brown wire with yellow, as i had to connect my turbo timer to it as it has a speedo on there.
