high ignition while in gear ?

ok hi people .. stock ca18det running a rb25 afm few other mods but not important..

afm seems to be working perfectly along with everyhing else.. just the one problem ..

this is a auto to manual conversion not sure how much dfferance it makes.

its always in neutral so the nistune states..

everything is fine untill i start to pull away .. its on a Dyno

even if i let it idle it reads 30 deg ign while in gear on nistune and its always around 15 deg advnced when in gear. not sure it across the whole map but im not hearing det under low boost ? 0.7 bar and under

out of gear idles perfectly a 15 deg ign and everything seems correct .

ive checked alot of the mistune manuals and in the Nistune mapping guide it states near the back of the manual how the ignition seems advanced on idle some 15 deg ? not sure how this relates but it looks like te same problem i have but in gear..

any help would be great.. been looking for answers for a while so thought id post..

and quickly .. does the standard ca18det afm max out at around 10psi ?

can you grab a consult log and post it here? not sure why the timing is doing that and related to neutral switch settings at all...

ok ive just done a log .. and realised its actually only as soon as tps goes off while in gear..

the neutral switch is always on ..

as you can se the smallist lift in tps and the ignition goes up ... ive also just seen that the high octain bar is in red aswell ? what is the purpose of this ?

you can have any tps reading on and off idle out of gear and no problems .

been playing with my R31 skyline before fitting up a board.

one of the issues ive had was the orginal TPS had the wrong wheel iside.
it had no idle contact and full throttle was at half throttle.

the replacement tps when fitted would stall the engine when moved to chech the contact--and stall whentravelling at low speed.

after 1500KM its all ok.

speaking of this whole neutral thing.....
what affect does it have on how the ECU works, if you dont hook up ANY wires to your gearbox.....ie no neautral/gear switches ???

depends what ECU.... because the tables depend on what is used

most ECUs have idle (TPS) or neutral (gear switch) tables and will use those tables instead of the main tables

neutral tables will generally drop the enrichment / timing because there is no load on the engine (assumed) at that time

TPS can affect things greatly if its in the wrong position. I found this on my R31 when it was out and trying to use the idle table when off idle upto a certain point and causes a hesitation since its running too lean until the switch actually activates.

Any way you can turn the neutral tables off ?

as the current problem car has been converted and i seems its always on .

not in the ECU. i would suggest finding the neutral switch wire and tieing it so its disabled

im talking about the CA18 ecu.....i think it has an idle switch on the tps....so would that mean it doesnt have a nuetral map?
Im pretty sure there is a Nuetral "input/signal" wire going into the ecu (cant remember what pin number).
could you look into this?
as 99% of the CA18's I deal with dont end up with a nuetral switch, the wire is simply cut off.
is that ok? or should it be powered/earthed to disable it? or does it not matter?

the neutral switch is pin 44 on the ecu plug . green wire with orange stripe.

from what matt says the car needs to be out of neutral or it will use other tables to referance. not sure if this is also the case if tps is off aswell ?

the wire needs a 12v feed to make it think its out of neutral

its the same if its auto or manual loom ..

hope this helps

r31 neutral switch is to ground so you need to check.
its prob best to fit switch to the clutch.it can be in gear but with the clutch depressed thats the same as in neutral.
some cars have simple pressure switch to trigger the stop lights.

RB20DET is pin 10--- 44 is a coil trigger.
tps would normally be output voltage returned to the ECU.

he said CA so i took it as ca18det engine's / looms

in the uk and every jap import S body car running CA gear from what ive seen uses pin 44 with a live feed to tell ecu its out of neutral and they have all been green wires with orange stripes..

but you should trace wires and double check..

cool, thaks for the pin 44 thing.
but can someone please confirm if I need to ground or give 12V to pin 44 in order for the ECU to think its in gear.
since it would be wired constantly to "in gear" mode....is there anyway at all to disable it?

If it's an auto to manual box conversion why not actually hook the wire up to where it's meant to be on the manual transmission?
