Afew basic noob questions

Hi, I've had my Nistune board for afew months now but only just finished off the engine conversion....so I'm now ready to get to grips with the software.
The car is a Almera GTi with a SR20VE engine. Matt uploaded my old SR20DE tune for me when he fitted the board, and there's afew basic things I'm trying.
The car is idling around 1500rpm, even when upto temperature....and I'm trying to figure out why. How do I get it into Timing mode with the sodtware? I went to try with a timing gun but when I disconnect the TPS the revs shoot up and up until I plug it back in.
Thanks

have you tempered with the TPS ?
have you tried to adjust it ?
what's the voltage it is displaying ?

what timing is consult showing?
target rpm map normally sets the rpms and adjusts timing to get it

Thanks for the reply, It's showing 15*....I wanted to knock it back abit to see if that brought the idle down, and to prevent det while I run the engine in.
I'll have a look at the target rpm, thanks.

That is a bit of a workaround. The timing is quite normal for stock idle when warm
There isnt an air leak at all which is causing artificial rise in RPMs due to extra air coming into the engine? What are your AFRs like?

Well I used PCB cleaner on the MAF and cleaned inside the TB, and it's settled to around 1000prm....Which is ok for now. Maybe the butterfly wasn't closing properley.
I've re-sized the injectors and the AFR's are pretty good. 14.5-9 on idle to high 12.8-13.2 on WOT. It needs more work there though, once I get to a dyno.
My other question is, when I told you my base timing was 15*....that was because that's what it shows in the Timing map at idle. But on the consult gauge it's only 5*, which I didn't see until the other day.
Is it a case of putting it into timing mode and adjusting the dizzy to 15*, which will be fine for now as a base. Or is there an easier way via the software?
Cheers

if it works like the SR20DE or DET engine found on the 200SX S14's best way is to put it active test, or whatever is called via consult/nistune software and adjust the CAS (if needed) with help of a timing gun to 15ยบ BTDC. then you can work out the timing map from there.

Ok just another quick question, I'm trying to load a base VE map onto my ECU to give me a better start to tune from. I've followed the guide in this thread on SR20-Forum.
http://www.sr20-forum.com/tuning/24693- ... ne-10.html
When I get to the point of 'copy all' once I've clicked 'from comparison to main' then ok. All the values are still the same as my 'ECU downloaded image'. Is there anything that I'm missing to copy these values?
Cheers

So when you check the comparison there are differences - after doing the copy on the maps you have selected??
Thats odd. You will need to burn those changes after doing the copy. That copy feature is the only thing which doesnt upload the changes to the board real time (everything else including cut/paste will upload to the board)

Ahh, What's happening is when I select the .Bin file I want it prompts me to select a Image file as it's synced. So I choose the 1N411 SR20DE N15 Image file from the Rom packs...then click compare then copy all from comparison to main.
All the values have now changed from my 'ECU download' maps to the 1N411 Base image maps, I can tell by the RPM limits and scales.
So I won't be able to see the VE.Bin values until I hit 'Burn'?
Thanks Matt.

your going at it all wrong i think, just do like i said on the sr forum an just load the file.. dont bother with comparing an copying right now.. lol

Make sure you have the ROM pack installed to avoid 'sync' prompts for files also

Well, finally got to the bottom of this. Just been messing around abit more and while not connected to the car. I've chose the B13 91-92 ADR, then chose one of those .Bins and wah lah! All values and maps.
So I might not be able to load the bins because of the ecu differences, but atleast I can view the values and check them over manually.
Thanks Lynch, Matt and RB240 for your help, can't wait until Sunday to get afew hours in the car.

No problem bro, glad you got her figured out a little..
i've been playin with nistune alot myself and have been learning a considerable amount.. i think nistune really pays for itself in the long run considering how much money you can save by road tuning.. instead of having to spend hundreds of dollars on dyno time
