KA-T Type 4 board looking for a new wideband and other quest

Post by Trippen »

Hello All,
I am new to the forum and have a few questions..Name is Rick...Same user name many boards (ka-t/TexasNissans) just to name a couple
Car setup
Current: 95 S14 KA-T 5 SPEED
20 overbore with arias pistons and eagle H-beam rods
10k on the motor running JWT ecu
Z32 MAF
50 Trim stage 2 wheel
14-18psi
PLXr500 wideband with EGT and turboxs knocklite
Drag Race and DD...Best time 14.2 @ 108.23mph 1/4 mile

I have got my spare ECU 3d(95 AUTO) WITH THE TYPE 4 BOARD INSTALLED JUST A WEEK AGO. Not installed in the car due to my location and where the car is. I am in Austria and Car is in Cali (temp 6month work assignment)

My questions are
1. I want to get rid of my PLX500r due to the display is starting to fade very badly and cant see the numbers when driving. What is the best suggestion for tuning with the Nistune? I have read a bunch on the Innovate LC-I and XD-16 combo but is it the quickest and simplest to run?
2. I want to take my base tune off of my JWT ECU. The shop that did my ECU an authorized dealer (Auto Vaughn Performance in Tennessee USA) said he would do it for free but I would have to send him both ECU's. Can i do this myself? And what are the risks? And what do I need? I have the total package from Nistune.

Thanks guys in advance.

1. The Innovate stuff is excellent, very simple and also accurate. Not used any of the others, so can't comment on them, but my own personal LM-1 is always very similar readings to the dyno wideband. The LC-1 is basically an LM-1 without the handheld box and a gauge instead.

2. In order to change the base image on a NIStune board you need a base image programmer ($140 AUS) and not something that can be done without one. So if all you have is the NIStune software, consult cable and the NIStune board itself you will need to send it away I'm afraid.

Thanks for the info on Both....Andy at http://www.autovaughnperformance.com said he would do it for me. So its no issue was just curious. And now that i see the cost....No reason buy that to do it on my own for just one tune swap.
I have an old hand held Innovate as a back up been tried and true and love it so the product line is solid. Just was wondering for the logging and use with the Nistune. I am going to go with a full LM1 kit...too many years of running with an AFR gauge the thought of not having one kinda freaks me out. Thanks HermaN...
