Gave up
I replaced the ECU with a stocker since I suck at tuning.

Re: Stock tune runs bad on bone stock car & can't write to ECU
Matt, im kind of haveing the same issue...
I was recently at the drag strip , durring my burnout my computer reads to me the following error message....
Invalid Response! Check
-correct consult type selected
-correct address file for ecu
Im trying to lean the car out but durring my pull its throws this error message. what do i do or what am i doing wrong?

What consult cable are you using? Sounds like corruption in this case due to noise. See the diagnostics document on the website for some things to try to resolve this
Occurring during a pull because the frequency of the noise increases where the comms doesn't work any more

Re: Stock tune runs bad on bone stock car & can't write to ECU
I'm using a USB consult cable that I got from the guy I ordered from. And I found another error I'm going to post it when I get a chance to but if it's cause of noise...I'm guessing I need to put sound damping around the ecu and the consult stuffs also?
Edit:
the other error im getting while in a pull is,
Checksum error detected (total frames = 1)
whats this mean?

Re: Stock tune runs bad on bone stock car & can't write to ECU
Matt is reffering to Electrical Noise in this case.
Some common fixes are;
.Ferrite loops on USB cables at each end.
.Replacing Noise supression capacitor in the cars electrical circuit.
.Getting the alternator checked, or replaced.
.Clean and Check all earth points (exhaust, chassis, ECU, Body, Engine is properly grounded to Battery)

Re: Stock tune runs bad on bone stock car & can't write to ECU
This means what we sent the ECU is not what we got back from it.... the response or command got garbled due to engine noise getting into the consult or USB cablesChecksum error detected (total frames = 1)
That is why we need to ensure good grounding and other noise suppressing measures as posted by bachig24u to avoid those errors occurring

Re: Stock tune runs bad on bone stock car & can't write to ECU
Hey Matt and friend can u help me with these questions,
I have the s13 black top in a s13 shell (hatch) with the battery in the trunk....what grounds do I need to insure I have the right amount, like a check list of somesort.
I don't know what this means or how to check it...
".Ferrite loops on USB cables at each end. "
I have no idea how to replace or even what this is.....
".Replacing Noise supression capacitor in the cars electrical circuit."
What should I check on ".Getting the alternator checked, or replaced." for?
How do I k ow how many "earth points" I'm to have to make this work..

Re: Stock tune runs bad on bone stock car & can't write to ECU
Transplants are the worst culprit for this problem, battery in the boot secondary
Okay ground wires are generally black
You need to make sure you have ground from battery terminal through to the chasis. Would advise also ground from battery terminal through to engine directly bolted. clean all ground connections with emery paper or similar so it is shiny on both sides for good contact
Also check grounding from engine to chasis inside engine bay, and EFI loom (black wires) that go to top of plenum are secure and clean
Next noise suppressor is a capacitor (see user manual for this) which filters noise. Check there is one and it is connected securely (clean terminals of this)
If still issues then google 'ferrite' and search for something which wraps around usb cable. There is a post on here about this (search ferrite)

Re: Gave up
matt does it matter if the ecu is mounted or not? right now its just sitting on my floor on the carpet. also i have a battery in my trunk and the power wire from the engine bay is passing by the ecu....would that cause any problems?
Re: Gave up
It doesnt help if you are getting disconnections. ECU should be bolted to chasis but the casing itself is not grounded for the later model units

Re: Gave up
What about the power wire should I run that in a different hole throughout te firewall?
Also I have a safc...should I completely remove the from the cars harness?
Thanks.

Re: Gave up
What are you using the SAFC for now?
Battery wire shouldnt make too much difference, just make sure ground wire is going also from battery to engine and front chasis where it used to before moving it

it was in for looks....but should i take it out? also matt is there any type of chat program you use? Im going to go for a tune shesh and was wondering if there was a why to chat while i tune if i run in to errors?
example:
Yahoo messanger
Kakao Talk
aol messanger
skype

Re: Gave up
probably best to skype. i dont run IM due to time constraints. best to email me first
