Connectivity

Post by 98blackbell »

New member and owner of a NIStuned 240.Great so far as the tune is concerned. Had a shop in Central Florida, USA do the chip insert and initial upload. Cars only upgrade is a Z32 MAF and a 3" straight thru exhaust.

My issue is when I had the shop do the install we did not have our laptop with us. Gary White of Whites Tuning said we just have to download the program and wait for the key. This happened flawlessly. The program is there, I can open and look around but when I plug the USB plug in I only have the red light on the consult cable. So I red the instructions and it said to down load the drivers for the cable. When I followed the instructions and downloaded the drivers for the usb port cable I do not have a communications port (com1) in my device file in my Ports (Com &LPT). I have a consult port (com4) but not the printer port (lpt1) or the communication port.

I have windows vista and followed there instructions from ftdichip.com.

Any direction would be great.

Help the NEWBIE with NOOB issues!

If you are using a laptop then you will find most will not have any COM ports or LPT ports on them at all. So this is quite normal. The manuals which you are following may have had these devices (for example most desktop machines still have one COM port and one LPT port)

When you plug in the PLMS USB consult cable it should install drivers for the USB cable and the install drivers for the COM port

This would be your COM4 device most likely

When you hit the 'consult' button inside Nistune the RX light on the cable should flash green several times. Do you see this?

If you see the flashing, next bit to check is ECU is running correctly (not limp mode)

Can you select COM4 under File-Configuration-Nissan ECU communications - port

Then try again?

I'm surprised the auto scan didnt show this port to connect to. Did the RX light flicker on the cable at all when attempting connection?
