Can't connect via consult

Post by RaymondK »

Type 4 board in my primera I can do everything when the ignition is on but cant connect when the engine is running....
Any ideas? Suggest a bad ground or something in the wiring harness
Anyone had the same issue

So you can connect when ignition on then, just not whilst engine is running

Please try looking through this:

Hi matt started with the obvious an had a look at the ecu itself. The existing board and and.connections to the daughter board look good. The only issue was the jumpers on the daughterboard. The PGM loop does that have to on or off for mapping. Bear in mind I can still adjust when ignition is on just when the engines running. So if that doesn't make a difference than its grounding like you said.
Does the edu box itself have to be grounded will have an affect on my problem. I have fitted a grounding kit aswell...
Cheers

Jumpers on the board should be PGM open and the JMP1-3 set depending on ECU. We set these and test before posting the board out regardless

Put ECU jumper back to factory mode and remove the board, then try connecting to the ECU as factory firstly and let me know how that goes

Hi matt. Just having a more in depth look at the ecu before I remove anything that Steve Sadler has done by fitting the board to and s14 case. There are 4 grounding point on the board that have hole that are attached to the ecu case. Only one of these is secured to the frame.
And what looks like the jumper alteration has been done really poorly and looks like the jumper on r021 may be shorting to r020 as well....
If its a case that these should be secured then your wording in having good grounding couldn't be more true!!!!

Would need images of the install. Did steve check the ECU connected prior to you using it?

Matt I've uploaded an image to facebook showing the grounding points.
To upload to the forum do I need to use photo bucket or similar.

It's looking more likely to be the grounding the deeper I look. Again the installation done by Steve it's a bit rough in places

eeek huge pictures. could you resize those?

anyway yes agreed the jumper setting is not very good. The laquer appears not to be cleaned off before moving the resistor and almost looks like GND and VCC points (one resistor has GND the other has VCC at the bottom, top ones connected together goes to the EXT/INT decision line)

Shorting these two together will blow the 5V regulator. See if you can clean and fix that up (flux would help flow here) and then see if you have 5V coming out of the green regulator (two pins 12V and other pin 5V if its still working). Red probe on regulator using volt meter and black probe against ground

Hi Matt. I will check that regulator tonight and see whats going on and also repair that jumper as its definetly not helping. but would that make the difference between working on ignition but cant connect when engine running....
i have checked all the grounds and the ecu and wiring is all correctly grounded
