It's actually hard to say because they all have a lot of k's on them now - and a std one is a rare beast indeed. But they all tend to run exceptionally rich as soon as boost comes up - and they just get richer as RPM rises. I've seen them run between 10 and 11:1 AFR's. It also depends if boost has b...

I tend to play with the later model stuff but FWIW Nissan use around 6 ohms. This value does seem to do the trick - if you can find them. Theoretically you need to dissipate around 17W worst case (injectors running at 100%) so they're gonna be pretty chunky. Looking at the size of the dropping resis...

Cool. That's pretty much what's happening here. Engine is being run using an Autronic box.

Thanks

OT - Nissan Auto trans control signals

Hey Guys,

OK, this is totally off topic but I thought somebody here might know.

Does anybody know what the signals that go from the ECU to the auto trans actually do? They're normally labelled "DT1, DT2, DT3".

Thanks

Good stuff - I love it!

Be interesting to plot dyno curves as well. I suspect you'd get the same result.

Cheaper plotting airflow though!

I assume that'd be 20 crankshaft degrees for S14/S15 (as listed in FSM) - which would be 10 degrees at the cam.

That's precisely what I intend to do. All I've done before is unplug the wires to the VCT solenoid on an S14 once to "see if it really makes any difference" on the dyno. It sure does! It pains me to remove the VCT when bigger cams are fitted cos I know that I'm missing out on low/midrange ...

Dunno about that one. When the car was standard it definitely looks like moving the VCT point downwards would help.

But with the bigger turbo and more boost it's hard to tell. Only one way to find out I guess. Must sort that throttle body first.

Hey Chris,

Sounds like the TB could be the problem. I'll check.

Thanks

Yeah, see what you can get from just using a T28 + decent intake and exhaust + a good tune. You may be surprised. See how close you can get to Graeme's 200 with the 2871.

I've seen 195 out of my S13 SR and T28 (std cams) so you should get close. And keep your boost response!

Yeah, it's very disappointing I reckon. Well, it actually drives really nicely on the street - it goes hard. But for that turbo it should go better than that. I took some engine bay pics but none really show the AFM. He's kept the engine bay looking really standard. Great job actually. Manifolds are...

Sweet! So looking at S15 the temperature range is -50 to 120, so effectively active all the time. And Max speed cut is at 0, so I assume that means it's also active at any speed. RPM window is 1050 - 5700 so it looks like inlet cam is advanced once you're above idle and it stays that way until 5700....

Hey Chris, Been doing some playing with this myself. Got Graeme's car on the dyno today. Factory boost control rules. Almost as good response as ball-n-spring valve. But will allow you to hold boost towards the end instead of dropping off. Nice. http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/customers/dyno/gf_s15_...

Boost response can be a bit hard to nail down because it depends how quickly the car is accellerating. On the dyno they call this the "ramp rate" - I always use the same ramp rate on each car so that allows me to compare apples to apples. On the road you really need to have the car properl...
