GTR Standard Boost Control

Post by markarmo »

Greetings fellow Nissan enthusiasts,

I am new to Nistune and starting to investigate its impressive capabilities for my R32 GTR. One topic of particular interest to me is access to parameters associated with the standard boost control solenoid. I have found some related posts, but they are from a year or so ago. Can anyone bring me up to speed on the current level of progress, please?

I read one of the parameters can decrease the solenoids cutoff.

Its actually in the nistune documentation if you read it. (called "TP Load Limit")

I was meant to test it out today on my s13 but didnt get a chance to get around to it.

What I have found to be my nistune bible:

Didnt do anything for me... my car never reached the stock limit yet i was still being boost limited.

This is different to boost cut (TP) tables

Various ECUs do have some type of boost control : S15, ER34, BNR32

Chris was experimenting on his S15. I'm still to have a go at ER34 but one of the tuners that I've disucssed this with indicated he thinks it an on/off value which I'm still to have a go at the bench with

Not sure with the exact usage on BNR32 yet

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm no expert and the parameters used to determine an appropriate solenoid duty for the standard controller intrigues me.

The after market controllers I've come across seem to depend on a boost pressure sensor feedback. After checking the schematics in the manual for a standard BNR32 the MAP sensor appears to be only used for the boost gauge.

On the R34 the MAP is most definitely used and that is one of my next mini projects when I get time to check how that all works. Not too sure how the BNR32 does it then?

is there any updates on this topic? I need to tune a R32 GTR with nistune and want to be able to control the boost with the standard solinoid.

i cannot find any maps in the standard address file to change it?

can anyone help?

I haven't really checked this with an oscilloscope or anything, but I'm 99% sure that most Nissans have just on/off boost solenoid.. Z32 surely has it this way, it's normally full boost but if enough detonation is detected it switches to lower boost.

ECR33 seems to have some rpm limit where full boost kicks in, and it's probably the same for BNR32..

S14 SR20DET does have real boost control, but those maps are known for ages..

BNR32 has a 'high boost duty' map but havent played around with it yet to know

Okay did some testing tonight

R32 GTR ECU
25 Wastegate valve control solenoid valve

This has a frequency of 19.52Hz (51.2ms) applied to it. Doesnt seem to change regardless of TPS, RPM or TP movement

There is no boost sensor (unlike ER34 which has one)

Adjusting the boost maps on this ECU appeared to make no difference to the frequency on the scope :?:
