Rev limiter?

Post by BlueRB240 »

I'm not sure how off my tach is off but I tried to set the revlimter to 8500 but it zipped right past it to 9k. I tried to record the log but it seems to go crazy.

most tach's are a bit off ... and 500rpm off, at that RPM ain't uncommon.
how does the tach behaves in the rest of the RPM range ?
is it spot on ?

Yeah it's spot on. The VVL kicks at the right Rpms on the tach.

On the SR20's so far it looks like that. I haven't tried it with my RB20 since I don't need to rev past 8k.

Not at this time, There is always tuner-pro but I don't know if they have it for the RWD sr20 ecu's. That will do over 8k.

You need tunercode (modified Nissan code) to get above the 8000rpm mark

Well that's disappointing news as i had always thought that nistune sorted that issue and was a point that i used make about it. Bummer.

Its a shame that making a board for the SRxxVE ecu (2N500/5J000) is so hard (and i now realise why after doing some reserach about it) because i know those ECUs support way high limiters (9.5K tried and tested).

Nistune has never supported anything more than tuning the existing Nissan platform. There are no extras like launch control, flat shifting etc because it takes a long time to implement and its specific to each ECU

Consult patching is pretty generic once I separated the three firmware types and can run them over all the part numbers. Anything more specific is a custom job

Tunercode was aiming to fill the gap by making highly customised code but not sure where dave went with that one after calumsult shut down

so here is my question, even though it wont add a rev limiter past 8K RPM can we still tune that High and use an aftermarket rev limiter. say for example the Gizmo 2 step rev limiter? per say I only want to rev to 8500. can I adjust the table resolution accordingly. (further apart i guess that would mean) with the last cell being 8500 and the ecu will be able to keep up and make corrections / changes up that high?

Even if the last cell is set to 8500 it will only read up to 8000. So the last cell value @ 8k is what it carries out to 8500 or 9000. It tends to get richer from what I have noticed.

From my experience most Nissan ECU's will quite happily run right off the end of both RPM and load scales with no ill effects. Which I still find amazing. But that's what they do. :)
