back to back testing a vl bro!!!
just thaught i would let you guys in on some interesting results first best read this post
http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showpost. ... tcount=164
now these tests were done with the afm inline now for the interesting part
WITH THE AFM IN STD LOCATION WE WERE ABLE TO GET RITCHER MIXTURES AND 211RWKW INSTEAD OF THE 195RWKW WITH IT INLINE!!!!
LOOKS LIKE THE VL GUY'S MIGHT THROW OUT THEIR DOSE PIPES!!!
LOL LOL LOL

Just been testing with the AFM input from the Toyota. We put a zener diode rated to 5.1v inline with the AFM input to the ECU against ground.
This clamps the top end voltage so it doesnt exceed the 5.12 volts allowable by the A/D converter chip inside the ECU (otherwise we have found it can damage this chip)

z32's seem to be safe just the toyota and others you need to checkRB30-POWER wrote:So is this now recommended for all MAF changes on the Type 1 boards where opamp has been removed?
How much voltage can a Z32 actually put out, enough to damage the chip?

I've only ever had this reported with the Toyota MAF running on the VL ECU so far. There are quite a number of people with Z31 ECUs using Z32 MAF and no one has reported any problems yet
The Z32 should be upto 5.12 volts because I belive that goes directly into the A/D converter on the Z32 ECUs without an opamp (need to check).
Regardless I'll get a picture of the modification up soon to show the placement of the zener diode (just connects between AFM output pin and ground)

Hey Guys,
I've actually bench tested Z32 AFM's and they're quite happy to give more than 5V output. I got nearly 8V out of one. So the limiting must be done in the ECU.
Which means that if you're running one on your 500hp+ RB30 without the Op-amp circuit then it'd pay to fit a 5V Zener. 10c well spent.

yep this is what i was getting to if the afm is supplied with 5v then it should not be able to amplify the signal!Matt wrote:AFM is supplied with 12 volts and returns 2 - 7 volts. I've got more details about each of the pins back at home. I can post those up if you need them
The opamp mod to the ECU drops this 0 - 5 volts, but needs a zener diode to clamp it at 5 volts when using Z32 ECU AFMs
talk soon

I've got to grab some zener diodes today1. Sensor ground
2. Chassis ground
3. AFM output (2-7 volts actually...)
4. Hot wire cleaning
5. 12 volts from ECCS relay (ignition)
6. Calibration pot
matt
they are at dickies. I'll grab some on the way to work
