AFM HELP!!!

Post by zrated »

Hi Guys,

I'm having problems getting two cars to run correctly.

Scenario 1 - S13 with an RB20DET (T3 turbo and a Z32 AFM).
Loaded up the correct OEM binary and did the MAF scaling using the procedure in the nistune manual. The K value went from around 257odd up to the 420's (off the top of my head).

When i try to 'race' the engine (revving at idle) I get a lot of hesitation and it will not rev past the 3000rpm mark. If I put my foot down slowly it will eventually rev up to the high RPM however there still is a slight amount of hesitation.

I've been playing around with the K value and have got rid of 'most' of the hesitation by rasing the K value to around the 500 mark however if I'm on the dyno and put my foot to Wide Open Throttle (WOT) then it will start hesitating and I know the car is struggling.

The AFR's are at around 14.4 - 14.9 when the K vaule is at 500 (o2 sensor is unplugged). I've tried 2 different Z32 AFM's so I have eliminated that as the problem.

Does anything else need to be changed to run this MAF? It seems as if my tuning abilities has taken a downward spiral after my 5 week holiday. :(

Scenario 2 - Pintara with a CA18DET (GT28R turbo, 550cc RX7 injectors and a Q45 AFM).
Basically the same problem as mentioned above with the AFM, although the car hardly idles and smoke goes everywhere. I've adjusted the K value and injector latency (done both the scale injector and change maf using the nistune software).

I need another holiday! :)

Situation 1 has been resolved! :)

Two problems... one being that the 12v feed to the AFM had sunk back into the connector and was intermittently working. The other involved a nice hole in the fuel hose that connected the fuel pump to the pump cradle.

Situation 2 is 50% resolved (i think). We haven't tested the fuel pressure yet but the stock pressure reg's vacuum source was from the vacuum line that comes from under the throttle body (almost zero vacuum). Any more suggestions would be appreciated though!

Hi!

For the vaccum pipe on the regulator, you must plug it directly on the nipple that is on the back of the plenum .
