Help me diagnose this ECU/Nistune problem

Post by Dave88SS »

I have an 88NA ecu with Nistune installed. When I install it in my SS and load up 88t maps it coughs and sputters and runs like poo beccause it is all the way at the right of the fuel map at idle. I assumed I was loading something wrong and took it over to Russ' house this morning to see if his nistune would work in my car - and it did. We pulled the covers off the edu and checked for loos wires and broken solder joints and didn't find any. We're at a loss as to what else to check for that might be causing the problem. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks guys.

Rundown of what we tried:
Note: All this was done with idle controls and O2 sensor disconnected.

88SS Stock ecu -> perfectly fine
My 88NA Nistune ECU install -> top of load map at idle, super rich, runs like poo
Russ' 89(?)NA Nistune ecu -> runs fine.

We loaded up maps on both ecu's with My laptop and Russ' laptop, no change. We're both running 0.9.9b software and the 2.0 ROM pack.
We did notice that in my car, Russ' ecu would drop the consult connection any time we tried to do anything (either laptop) but was fine in his car. I don't know if that's related or not.

If I missed anything I'm sure Russ will chime in. I'm going to be in Turkey for the next couple weeks so I won't be able to try anything anytime soon to do more diagnosis...

so you can connect to the ECU since you are getting TP tracing (to the right of the map)

what is your AFM voltage? something doesnt sound right in that department

with regards to disconnects, check your wirinig. see the updated diagnostics document on the documents page with regards to that

Yes will trace and display gauges fine, seems to load bins fine as well. Runs like crap (same crap) no matter what I file I load though. Same process yields goodness when I use Russ' ecu.

currently building a new nistune laptop as the mouse nub thing on my old one bit it. Hopefully can check on the MAF signal and grounding stuff tomorrow.

thanks

only thing i can think is something went wrong with the base image. so could try sending another board and see how that goes?

Works for me. Short of installing my board in another ecu I don't know what else to try.
