Coil Packs

Post by trevor1986 »

I'm just wondering if there is a way to use some type of coil pack and control it through nistune on a ka-t type 3 board. I'm not aware of a way but I want to make sure.

Thanks

Only things you can control is dwell time and dwell duty inside Nistune in regards to coils

You'll need some extra hardware to sequence the coils too if a dizzy is being used ATM.

Or are you wanting to replace the large coil with a single small coil pack coil ? You may run into spark issues at high RPM [low energy] with a coil pack coil [saturation and charge problems]. They were designed to run in multiples (4 or 6), so you'll effectivly be running them at 4/6 times the design RPM !!

I have some compact, serious output coils available if needed. [40+psi and methanol is not an issue]

I was just looking to do the LS2 coil packs with heatsink. I know you can use them on the ka but I've only seen it done on standalone, but what I read all you need to do is adjust dwell time and dwell duty cycle, I just want to know if they will work with nistune. Any insight on that question?

This is what I'm wanting to do.

Well I believe I found my answer, correct me if I'm wrong but ill need an ecu that will allow for 4 ignition coil signals.

Would you by chance know the pin numbers for those Matt? I looked and couldn't see them.

Well after search a lot this is what I found if you look in the link there is a pinout for a 95 obd1 ecu and I don't think sr and ka have the same options.

Type 3 board is 1991-1994 ecu. Coil 1-4 on second column of that diagram. Only distributor models have single coil

Okay well you are correct since you only had the single coil. First post was misleading :(
