can't connect :-(

Post by RobH »

Hi All, I'm a newbie (sorry!) and I'm trying to connect to my Z32 using Type 2 daughterboard, USB consult cable and NIStune 0.9254. Apart from anything else, I've looked at the documentation and it doesn't appear to have the same features as the version I'm using (no 'consult' button and no opton for consult in configuration). The license I have is the extended consult version. Also, in config I only have the option of Com 1 or 3 or Nissan Auto, my USB cable installed on Com 4.

Matt's sticky which links to updated docs is a dead link so I'm struggling a bit. I found the correct driver for the USB cable but still can't seem to get a connection, the red light is the best I can get on the cable..NIStune says Consult not connected :-(

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Rob

I've fixed up the reference to the broken link in that sticky. All documents are on the main website at http://www.nistune.com under 'Documents'

As improvements get made to the software, sometimes new things get added and the documentation hasn't been updated. I've updated them tonight with the newer configuration window

There is no longer the need to manually configure consult type in the configuration window. If you have opened the Z32 address file, it will attempt to connect through your consult cable

Section 18(a) of the software manual discusses COM ports. Please do the following procedure
(a) remove and replug in device
(b) check in device manager port number
(c) open up File - Configuration and double check the current list of ports

If still not showing then please send me a debug log (see debug section sticky and I'll have a look from there)

If you can see your port, you can try manually selecting it from File-Configuration and then try reconnecting

Does the PLMS USB Consult cable and COM port show with no errors in device manager?

Once you can connect to the port, at least one light should flash when it tries to establish communications

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the swift reply.

After rebooting the laptop the com port became visible in the configuration dialog (COM4). I've selected this but it has made no difference. The status bar in the main NIStune window says 'Not connected to consult' and attempting to resync etc shows the popup 'Consult not connected!'

COM port and USB consult interface show in device manager with no errors or problems. Consult cable lights stay static on red whatever I do.

Do you want me to forward a log file?

Thanks and regards

Doh! Do I feel stupid now!?

Just had a look at Nistune on my PC (rather than laptop) and it opened in a bigger default window - revealing two extra buttons, one of which is the 'consult' connection button.

It's a bit late to try again this evening but I'll have another go at connecting tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your help so far Matt and sorry for, possibly, wasting your valuable time...

Cheers

Are you running lower resolution on the laptop? Say 800x600?

I'll see what I can do to shorten the top bar so it fits better

Hi Matt, the window fits on the screen just fine when maximised, not particularly low res. It was simply my error. It's running just fine now thank you - I just need to work out how to break my car by pressing the wrong buttons now ;-) (it won't take long!)

Thanks and regards,

hey matt

i'm having the same problem connecting via consult port on car. i'm trying to connect to a 1993 240sx with a red top sr20det. I've check to make sure there is power to cars concult plug and i'm opening the correct address file. my laptop reads the usb consult cable, but will not connect. I've tried using two different laptops. one other question, the only display gauge i can select is the knock senser, nothing else.
Thanks

Hi

If you have a PLMS USB consult cable it will have green/orange lights. Does one of these flicker when attempting connection?

Does your ECU have the daughterboard currently fitted? Does the ECU run in limp mode with daughterboard fitted?

Just wondering if connection problem is due to daughterboard or PC at this stage. If you can connect to a factory ECU with your PC then problem lies with the daughterboard installation

i have a daughterboard fitted one ecu for another car and right now the car isnt up and running yet. so i'm trying to use nistune to check ecu in a differ car. this car is a s13 240 with a sr installed and the ecu does not have a daughterboard installed. the only light that is on is the red light and when i try to connect the middle green light flashes alittle.

If only the green light flashes, means that your USB Consult drivers are installed properly and NIStune is trying to talk to the ECU

but the ECU is not talking back (because orange light should flicker back when ECU responds)

Perhaps try another ECU and if still not working, check your loom

buzz out the consult lines going from the Consult plug to the ECU plug. Email me and I can send you the pinouts to check
